Movie: The Promotion (2008)

Starring: John C. Reilly, Sean William Scott, Jenna Fischer, and Lili Taylor

Written/Directed: Steve Conrad

First of all let me just say that not many people got the end of the movie, and that was one of the best parts. After Doug finds out he got the job, he does this running double flip on the sidewalk of a busy downtown street.

All throughout the movie, people were asking him if he was a male gymnast in the junior Olympics. And, despite his coworkers telling him they googled it, Doug claimed it wasn’t true. Then, at the end of the movie, he does the celebratory flip and you know at that point that the rumors were true. 😄

I watched this movie so many times, and what I love about it is its “down to earth plot.” Doug Stauber and his girlfriend, played by Jenna Fischer, live in an apartment with neighbors who are annoying. They want out so bad.

She has a good job in a hospital and is debating the decision of going back to school, but Doug is fighting for this promotion at Donaldson’s Food Store. The promotion will finally get him a job in management, which comes with a hefty pay raise.

The movie captures the struggles of young couple trying to make it with all the shenanigans that go on in the work place at a grocery store.

Personally, the plot and the movie in its entirety was relatable.

I did some number crunching, and there are over 300,000 food stores in the United States. 4.5% of our population works at a grocery store, and I hope they enjoyed this movie as much as I did.

I gave The Promotion 5 out of 5 clapboards! 🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬

It was funny, the cast was legendary, and it was brilliantly written.
