Consumers are outraged here in Allentown, Pennsylvania because of the shortage of disinfectant products on shelves at food stores and other retail centers.
Right now, we don’t know what’s causing the shortage. Is there a problem with companies who are manufacturing these products, or is there a problem with distribution? We don’t know.
What we do know is that Covid-19 has caused all kinds of issues as we’ve seen the closure of anything considered non-essential, but at a time like this, you’d expect to at least see products like bleach and Lysol disinfectant wipes on the shelves at your local stores.
It’s rumors right now that have customers angry and lashing out store employees. The rumor is that local food stores and retail centers are hoarding. Yes, shoppers are accusing store employees of hiding Clorox products in storage rooms, and then buying as much of them as possible when they get paid.
It doesn’t sound like a bad idea if you work at one of these places, but what about customers? Selfishness! We hope local businesses wouldn’t stoop this low at a time like this, but we could be wrong.
We hope to have a follow-up to this story posted Monday, after we have a chance to talk to store employees and product makers.
