Pennsylvania In The Game

In May the United States Supreme Court ruled in favor of legalizing sports betting in Pennsylvania, for a small fee of course.

Pennsylvania has 12 casinos opening sports books, and owners will pay $10 million for live action comparable to Las Vegas.

Parx Casino and Sugar House in Philadelphia  anticipate their opening within a few weeks, while Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course near Hershey has been taking bets for the past week.

Nationally, Pennsylvania is the seventh state where sports betting is now legal.

Women Making Some Progress

Over 1,000 Iranian Women were in attendance to watch the Kashima Antlers of Japan play the Iranian Persepolis.  Although the Antlers won the game 2-0 and the Asian Champions in Tehran, the real story here was about the women in the crowd.

FIFA has been working with officials in Iran to lift a ban that restricted women from attending sports events in Iran.  This has been the policy there since the Islamic Revolution took place in 1979.

NCAA College Football

As of yesterday, our five unbeaten teams are still perfect.  Alabama (9-0), the top ranked team in the country, beat LSU 29-0.  LSU is a good football team, but they couldn’t get anything going offensively yesterday.  Alabama’s defense held running back Nick Brossette to 5 yards on 7 carries, and Joe Burrow carried the ball 12 times for minus 7.

Alabama led 16-0 at halftime.  Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa threw for 295 yards and a touchdown, while running back Damien Harris contributed 107 yards and a touchdown on the ground.  Alabama scored 6 points in the third quarter and another 7 in the fourth.  They played exceptionally well on both sides of the ball, and yesterday’s win against the 3rd ranked team in the nation showed us theyre definitely for real.

Clemson (8-0) blew out Louisville 77-16.  Plain and simple.  This could possibly be Head Coach Bobby Petrinos last season with the Cardinals.

Notre Dame (8-0), won 31-21 against Northwestern, and UCF (8-0) beat Temple 52-40.  South Florida sits idle at 7-0, after having this week off.

And…..

How about the Michigan Wolverines beating Penn State 42-7.  This was Penn States third loss this season, and I feel bad for them.  I really do.  I thought they were going to dominate the remainder of their schedule after the Ohio State loss, but that’s not what’s happening apparently.

Trace Mcsorley threw an interception, and completed 5 of 13 passes for a total of 83 yards, which is definitely not in the formula for winning, but he did rush for the Lions only score of the day.

On The Creep

  • Ohio State
  • Georgia
  • Michigan
  • Washington State

College football is so competetive, and for many years the top two teams playing for the National Championship had either one loss or was undefeated so we focused so much of our attention on the undefeated teams.

Usually in the past when teams lost their first game they seemed to fall into an ocean of one loss teams, but don’t forget about those creepers.  Teams with one loss like those listed above are alive and well.

NCAA College Football

We are now four weeks into our coverage of NCAA College Football’s undefeated teams, and after this past weekend, our list is down to five teams.

Cincinnati broke into the Top 25, but their stay on our list was brief thanks to Temple.  Yup, the Temple Owls came through with the upset win against Cincinnati in overtime 24-17.

Many people thought N.C. State was capable of beating Clemson, but exactly the opposite happened.  As a matter of fact, Clemson not only improved their record to 7-0 this week, but after blowing out N.C. State 41-7, they also silenced a lot of critics and proved they’re a top contender for the National Championship.  Uh oh!  Move over Alabama?

Notre Dame (7-0) had a bye,  Alabama beat Tennessee 58-21, and they’re now 8-0, Central Florida beat East Carolina 37-10, and our new team this week is South Florida.

The University of South Florida defeated Connecticut 38-30.  They’re currently ranked twenty-one nationally and 7-0.  Welcome!

The New List

  • Alabama (8-0)
  • Clemson (7-0)
  • Notre Dame (7-0)
  • UCF (7-0)
  • USF (7-0)

NCAA College Football

Another week gone by, three to be exact since we started tracking the undefeated teams in college football.  Like I said, this wasn’t a ranking of any kind- just a compilation of unbeaten teams.

This week I realized that there are more undefeated teams that were not on our list because they weren’t visible outside the top 25.  Moving forward, as teams lose and things get shuffled around, new teams like Cincinatti who are also undefeated will appear in the top 25.  The point I’m trying to make here is that our list might actually increase after each weekend, it’s all good.

Who lost? LSU beat Georgia 36-16, Colorado lost to USC 31-20, and West Virgina lost to Iowa St. 30-14.

Winners! Alabama won 39-10 against Missouri, UCF won 31-30 against Memphis, Notre Dame beat Pitt 19-14, and Ohio State beat Minnesota 30-14.

Clemson and N.C. State had byes this week, and Cinncinatti is our new undefeated addition.

Without any further explanations or clarifications…

The New List

  • Alabama (7-0)
  • UCF (6-0)
  • Notre Dame (7-0)
  • Ohio State (7-0)
  • Clemson (6-0)
  • N.C. State (5-0)
  • Cincinatti (6-0)

High School Football Game Of The Week

It’s going to be partly cloudy and a cool 50 degrees this evening as we’re approaching the midpoint of October.  A beautiful evening and a fantastic night for this highly anticipated football game between Freedom and Emmaus.  Both teams are a perfect (7-0).  According to the Morning Call Big School Top 5 Football Rankings, Freedom is ranked number one, and Emmaus is ranked two.

The kickoff time is 7:05 PM, and Emmaus has the luxury of playing at home, which could be the difference in what many predict to be a close game.

Good Night For Saquon

Despite the Giants loss to Philly last night 34-13, Saquon Barkley looked really good.  Actually, the Giants looked really good to in their throw back attire bringing back memories of Mark Bavaro and that 1986 Super Bowl Championship team.

Well, the Giants did lose to the Eagles and are now (1-5).  If the first six games are a benchmark, a playoff picture seems highly unlikely at this point.

Saquon though, had 13 carries for 130 yards including a 150 yard touchdown run.  In addition, he caught 9 balls for 99 yards.  Barkley was active and very productive accounting for 230 yards of total offense.

Penn State, Michigan State

If you look at the noozbuffet About page you’ll see, “news we can beast or feast on.”  This would be a good example.

I’m gonna feast on this.

Penn State, fresh off their bye week, returns to Beaver Stadium to play Michigan State.  There’s a whole lot of intangibles that we could take into consideration here.  Lets see.

Penn State lost to undefeated Ohio State by 1 point in their last appearance.  Michigan State usually plays Penn State tough.  Sometimes teams lose rhythm after a bye because of the additional week off.  Sometimes teams benefit from having the extra week off.  White Out.  Penn State wants to go from a great program to an elite program.

Seriously…

We expect the Nittany Lions to play a near perfect game and win convincingly.

Penn State has to win this game.  They have to, and I’m not saying that from a fans perspective.
