Put all the horror movies aside. Try not to think about films like the Exorcist or Omen, or newer ones like the Conjuring. Metaphysically, it represents the penetrating power of the intellect. Symbolically, it represents power, protection, authority, strength, courage, chievelry, and knighthood.
Alchemically, it represents purification.
