There are a few games this weekend that are well deserving of super hype and attention, but as shocking as it may be, our NCAA College Football Feature Game pick is the game between SMU and TCU.
Southern Methodist is traveling to Texas Christian, and when it’s all said and done, only one of them will remain undefeated.
The SMU Mustangs won a tight game against Arkansas State 37-30 during the first week of the season, and since, they’ve continued taking care of business. They beat North Texas 49-27, and Texas State 47-17. They’re unranked, but they’re 3-0. Running back Xavier Jones has 291 yards and 7 touchdowns on 54 carries. He’s capable of carrying the load, and SMU will need him to be productive. The Mustangs are outscoring opponents 35-6 in first quarter play, and this week, more than ever, they’ll have come out and make an early statement. They’re on the road, and the environment will be hostile.
TCU is ranked 25th, they’re 2-0, and they’re home. They will be up and ready for this game. They have wins over Pine Bluff and Purdue and seek win number three this weekend. TCU has the advantage of playing home so it can only work in their favor if they’re scoring early and often. Last week the Horned Frog defense held Purdue running back King Doerue to 27 yards on 11 carries and picked off quarterback Jack Plummer twice. As a matter of fact, the Boiler Makers touched pay dirt one time, and it was in the fourth quarter. They’ll need the same effort this week out of their defense. On offense, TCU seems to have a two-headed monster emerging out of the backfield. Combined, Olonilua and Anderson rushed for 285 yards and 3 touchdowns on 34 carries. If SMU can’t stop the run, it’s going to be a long hard afternoon.
