College Football Week 9; Big Ten Results

Friends, fans, and followers, good morning! Well, as far as shocks and surprises are concerned, week nine didn’t disappoint, that’s for sure. I felt Iowa had an advantage in this game, but a 41-3 victory was well beyond my expectations. Man, Iowa is playing good football right now.

I also thought Northwestern would overcome Nebraska, and I did not expect Washington to beat Illinois by seventeen points. All in all, at the end of the day, I guess you could say all of the big dogs kept their seat at the table. Washington, Indiana, Oregon, and Michigan won. Let’s take a look at the week nine scores below and see how we did with our picks.

College Football Week 9; Big Ten Preview & Predictions

Friends, fans, and followers, thank you for visiting Nooz Buffet. It’s week nine of the college football season, and we have seven games this weekend featuring teams from the Big Ten Conference. All seven are inter-conference games.

Ohio State, USC, Maryland, and Penn State have the week off, which I think is a good thing right now especially for Penn State because they haven’t been right since that 6-point loss to Oregon on September 27th. In total, they lost four games in a row, their head coach was fired, and they lost Drew Allar for the season. If anyone needs to go back to the drawing board, it’s the Nittany Lions.

After dropping three straight, Maryland isn’t far behind. The Terrapins just lost to a revived UCLA team 20-17, and before that, they lost two close games to Washington and Nebraska. Ohio State is actually the only team that has a bye this week and won during week eight. After beating Wisconsin in Camp Randall, the Buckeyes are now 7-0!

Okay, okay, let’s get into this week’s previews and predictions because I know you guys are excited. I am too. If you see TBD above a game, that means the kickoff time is To-Be-Decided.

Minnesota (5-2) @ Iowa (5-2)

The Minnesota Golden Gophers are traveling to Kinnick Stadium Saturday to play the Iowa Hawkeyes, and this was my selection for “Big Ten Game of the Week.” Minnesota just improved to 5-2 overall after a week 8 victory over a Nebraska team, who at the time, was ranked nationally. Good things happen when you can run the football and stop the run. Minnesota was successful at both against Nebraska.

Iowa is also 5-2 overall, and last week’s one-point-win over Penn State was a huge moral boost. However, Iowa’s defense was gashed by Penn State running back, Kaytron Allen (28 carries, 145 yards, 2 touchdowns). This week, they have the task of stopping Minnesota’s Darius Taylor. That’s not going to be easy. This is going to be a close game, a very physical game, and it’s a must win for both teams. I give a slight edge to Iowa.

Saturday, October 25th

Rutgers (3-4) @ Purdue (2-5)

Wow, so, the Scarlet Knights are 3-4 overall, they lost their last four games, and they haven’t won a game yet against a conference opponent. It’s a similar story for the Purdue Boilermakers. They’re 2-5 overall, they have a five-game losing streak, and they’re also winless against Big Ten opponents. In a 19-0 loss to Northwestern last week, Purdue turned the ball over three times, and they were penalized 8 times for 98 yards. That’s not a recipe for success, but if they can minimize mistakes and hold on to the football this week, I think they can break this losing streak and get their first Big Ten win at home against Rutgers. Right now, Purdue’s quarterback, Ryan Browne, is questionable after leaving the Northwestern game with a shoulder injury, however, his backup, Malachi Singleton, is supposed to be pretty good.

UCLA (3-4) @ 2 Indiana (7-0)

After a huge win against Oregon, Indiana has not only solidified their position in the Big Ten, but in the nation as well. No doubt, the Hoosiers are for real, but something magical is happening in the City of Angels. UCLA is revived and back from the dead, and after starting this season 0-4, the Bruins won three straight games. If ever there was a trap game, this is it. Indiana is the better football team and a huge favorite in this game, but strange things happen on Saturdays.

25 Michigan (5-2) @ Michigan State (3-4)

Michigan’s back was against the wall last week, and it felt like their entire season had come down to that game against Washington, but you know what? The Wolverines stood their ground. Michigan is now 5-2 overall, 3-1 in the conference, and they head out this weekend to play in-state rival, Michigan State.

Michigan State played Indiana last week, and I think we all know how that turned out, but there were some bright spots in that 39-13 loss. Quaterback, Aidan Chiles, completed 27 of 33 passes for 243 yards and 1 touchdown. Wide receiver, Nick Marsh, caught 7 balls for 64 yards and 1 touchdown. Also, the Spartans did not turn the ball over, and they won in time of possession. Those are all good takeaways after playing the team in the country, but Michigan State needs a running back. I bet they wish they had Jordan Marshall.

Wisconsin (2-5) @ 6 Oregon (6-1)

The Wisconsin Badgers are now 2-5 overall after getting embarrassed at home by the Buckeyes during week 8. Ya know, I really thought Wisconsin was going to put up a tougher fight than that, but hey, we’re talking about Ohio State. This week, it doesn’t get any easier for Wisconsin as they travel to Eugene, to play the Ducks. If you’re Oregon, beating Rutger 56-10 is precisely how you shake off a loss to Indiana. With their last four games against Iowa, Minnesota, USC, and Washington, it’s imperative for Oregon to get a win this week, and that my friends, is what they shall do.

Northwestern (5-2) @ Nebraska (5-2)

I know neither of these teams are ranked nationally, but this is a huge game for both teams. Northwestern is looking to extend their four-game-winning streak to five games, and a win over Nebraska this weekend would make them 4-1 in the conference. Nebraska struggled last week against Minnesota. They couldn’t run the ball, they couldn’t stop the run, and Dylan Raiola was held to just 177 yards passing with zero touchdowns. Neither one of these teams can afford another loss, but there can be only one winner. I think the Wildcats are going to shock the world this weekend by beating Nebraska at home, and with that win, they’ll quietly improve their overall record to 6-2, and their conference record to 4-1. We might even see them in the Top 25.

Illinois (5-2) @ Washington (5-2)

Another big game right here between the Fighting Illini and the Huskies, and I’m just going to come out and say it. The team that loses this game is done. They can kiss the playoffs goodbye, and since both teams already have two losses in the conference, they can kiss the Big Ten Title goodbye as well. Illinois is coming back off of a bye week, which gave them time to heal and make some adjustments after losing to Ohio State. Washington just lost to Michigan, and now they’re going to have to do what the Wolverines did last week. Show up and take a stand at home. If Washington can win this game, I think they have a shot because they still have to play Oregon in their final game of the season, and as we all know, Oregon lost to Indiana.

College Football Week 9; Big Ten Schedule

Welcome to week nine of the college football season. There are seven games scheduled this week featuring teams from the Big Ten Conference, and all seven games are inter-conference games. Ohio State, USC, Maryland, and Penn State have the week off. I noticed that four of the games scheduled for Saturday, October 25th, have no kickoff time, so, if you see TBD above the game below, it means To-Be-Decided.

Okay, out of the seven, four games have my attention. UCLA is on the road playing Indiana. UCLA is hot right now and looking to extend their winning streak to four games. For Indiana, this is a trap game. Northwestern against Nebraska, Illinois against Washington, and Minnesota versus Iowa. The game between the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Minnesota Golden Gophers was my pick for “Big Ten Game of the Week.”

Good morning! So, week eight is complete, and I think it’s safe to say that the Big Ten picture is finally starting to become clear. Ohio State, Indiana, and Oregon appear to be running away with it, but there are still several teams that are hanging tough.

How about UCLA, winning their third straight game? The Michigan Wolverines took a stand in the Big House, and Nebraska got served. Let’s check out the results below and see how we did with our picks.

Fans Can Take the NFL Back

I just had a conversation with a man at the local food store this morning, and he was venting to me about his disappointment with the NFL’s decision to go overseas and play games all over the world. The truth is that the National Football League has gone global, and it actually bothers me to say this, but football is no longer America’s game. It belongs to the world.

Let’s slow up for a second though, because other things have been happening along the way that a lot of people aren’t happy with. Collin Kapernick’s decision to kneel during the National Anthem at the start of NFL games to protest police brutality and racial inequality in the United States angers people, and I understand their frustration. Football WAS America’s game, and if you have the privilege of playing in the NFL and are allowed to earn a paycheck in the United States of America, you should want to stand for your country’s national anthem. In addition to that, people want the game of football isolated from outside political and religious influences. I agree, and I believe that Roger Goodell should’ve taken a stand on allowing the NFL to be used as a political platform by one or more of its players.

Let’s see, what else. Well, there’s the whole feminization of football in general brought on by female referees, players wearing pink, and random pictures popping up on the internet of homosexual players kissing one another. Then, we have the situation with the targeting call. The man who plays the game the way it was meant to be played and accidentally makes a tackle or hit that’s judged to be “targeting,” well, he gets kicked out of game, booed by the fans, and vilified.

Can you imagine? That unfortunate person is now the bad guy and made to feel like he did something wrong.

A cancer has gotten into the NFL, and it happened once former commissioner, Paul Tagliabue resigned. It’s the same cancer that plagues America today. It’s the same cancer that used the George Floyd incident to riot, loot, murder, and destroy our country’s historical monuments for seven months, it’s the same cancer that believes all white people are privileged and racist, and it’s the same cancer that fights for illegal immigration, wants transexual men to use woman’s bathrooms, and attacks good people for speaking the truth. It’s the same cancer that will be angered by this article and question how I was allowed to even write such a thing-like as if I’m not allowed to express my opinions or the concerns of others.

Who is Roger Goodell? Well, he’s the Commissioner of the NFL, and he’s a man that bent to the Black Lives Matter movement. Roger Goodell’s cousin, Andy Goodell, was an American politician elected to the New York State Assembly in 2010, and he was or is a lawyer and managing partner of the law firm, Goodell & Rankin.

Roger Goodell’s father, Charles Goodell, who’s also Andy’s uncle, was also an American politician who represented New York in the United States House of Representatives from 1959 to 1968 and the United States Senate from 1968 to 1971. In both cases, Charles took office following the death of his predecessors.

Charles Goodell was actually appointed by Nelson Rockefeller to fill the vacancy caused by the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy. Hmm, that’s really interesting.

So, as you can see, the Commissioner of our game comes from a family that’s powerful and politically connected in the United States, but especially in the state of New York.

Under this man’s watch, the NFL made it cool and fashionable for men to embrace and wear the color pink, hired women to officiate games, allowed people to disrespect our flag and our national anthem, allowed a second black national anthem (which promotes further division in this country), vilified, fined, and booed players for making innocent tackles, and sold our sport out to the entire globe.

That’s politics in the United States, and Goodell allowed politics to poison the game of football, but you know what? If the fans stopped going to the games and stopped watching the sport entirely, then I’m sure Roger Goodell would have to reevaluate some of his decisions.

But, as a nation, this is where we fail. When it comes to drawing lines and saying no more, we fail as a people. People are selfish, and heaven forbid if they missed a game. So, it’s business as usual and American’s will go on believing that football is still our game, even though it’s clearly not.

Big Ten Football; A Three-Tier-Conference

Good morning. If you read my last post, College Football Week 8 Big Ten Preview and Predictions, then you might’ve seen in the preview of the game between Oregon and Rutgers, I wrote that Rutgers fell into, what I call, the bottom third of the conference, and I said I would talk about what that means in a later article. Well, this is that article.

It’s no longer a secret, the days of the Big Ten actually having ten teams are long gone. Right now, the Big Ten is a conference with eighteen teams, and so, I decided to create a system, or a ranking structure for those teams. It’s a three-tier or a three-level system, with two categories within each tier to further divide the good teams from the not so good teams.

Tier 1
 Ohio State, Oregon, Indiana, Washington, USC, Nebraska

Category A: Ohio State, Indiana, Oregon

Category B: USC, Washington, Nebraska 

Tier 2
Michigan, Illinois, Northwestern, Iowa, Minnesota, Maryland

Category B: Northwestern, Minnesota, Maryland

Tier 3
Penn State, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Rutgers, UCLA, Purdue

Category A: UCLA, Penn State, Michigan State

Right now, in my opinion, this is how it looks, but this is going to change this weekend, of course. I think the top tier teams will stay in the top tier, but they might shift around from category to category. Ohio State is head and shoulders above everyone with Indiana being a close second, and I still think Oregon is still a pretty good football team.

What I don’t know is how good Washington, USC, and Nebraska are. I have a feeling that Nebraska might fall out of Tier 1, but Washington and USC still have Category A potential.

College Football Week 8; Big Ten Preview and Predictions

Friends, fans, and followers, thank you for visiting Nooz Buffet. It’s now the eighth week of the college football season, and there’s so much going on within the Big Ten. There are nine games scheduled featuring teams from the Big Ten conference this weekend, and eight of those games are interconference games, while the ninth is the rivalry game between Notre Dame and USC.

The game between the Washington Huskies and the Michigan Wolverines was my pick for “Big Ten Game of the Week,” and that’s because there’s so much riding on it. Right now, Michigan is fighting to stay alive in the conference, and they’re fighting to keep their playoff hopes alive. It’s a must win for the Wolverines. If Washington wins, they’ll improve to 6-1 overall, 3-1 in the conference, and quite possibly appear back in the AP Top 25. Nebraska versus Minnesota will be another good game, and of course, the game between USC and Notre Dame. Man, those pollsters just can’t get enough of Notre Dame. What is the obsession?

The Washington Huskies are traveling to Ann Arbor this weekend to face the Wolverines.  Since suffering their first loss of the season to Ohio State, the Huskies managed to put together back to back wins against Maryland and Rutgers.  This weekend, Washington looks to extend that winning streak to three games, and a win against Michigan might be enough to propel them into the Top 25.

Michigan just took their second L of the season last week to USC, and the alarm is now sounding.  Michigan has already fallen out of the Top 25, but a third loss would end any playoff hopes they might’ve had.  The Wolverines are in a desperate situation with their backs against the wall.  They can not lose at home this weekend.

25 Nebraska (5-1) @ Minnesota (4-2)

Do you want to hear something crazy? If it wasn’t for a five-point-loss to Michigan on September 20th, the Cornhuskers would be undefeated right now. Nebraska also just broke into the Top 25 at . Talk about flying under the radar. Holy crap.

Minnesota is home for this game, and the Golden Gophers are a good football team that’s well coached. Drake Lindsay is a decent quarterback. He’s fast, he can make plays with his feet, and he does have a strong arm. Wide receiver, Lemeke Brockington, can be hard to handle once he gets in space. Nebraska has their hands full here.

Saturday, October 18th

3:30 P.M.

Purdue (2-4) @ Northwestern (4-2)

The Purdue Boilermakers are 2-4 after a week seven loss to Minnesota. Quarterback, Ryan Browne, completed 21 of 40 passes for 203 yards, 0 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions. That’s not good, and that’s not a recipe for success, but there’s some hope. In that seven-point loss to Minnesota, running back, Devin Mockobee, rushed for 98 yards on 21 carries. Believe me, the players on this Purdue team are not depressed by their 2-4 record. They show up every week, they’re enthusiastic, and if they can have success running the football again this week with Mockobee, they have a chance.

Surprisingly, Northwestern is 4-2. This Wildcat team doesn’t give up, and they just had a huge win over Penn State last week. That’s three wins in a row now, and Northwestern is playing with confidence. They believe in themselves. I think Northwestern get win number five at home this weekend.

Michigan State (3-3) @ 3 Indiana (6-0)

We kind of knew Indiana was a good football team, but after last week’s victory over Oregon in Eugene, I think I need to reevaluate just how good this Hoosiers team is.  Indiana is now 6-0 overall, 3-0 against Big Ten opponents, and they leaped to nationally from .  We always talk about Indiana’s offense and players like Fernando Mendoza, Roman Hemby, and Elijah Sarratt, but Indiana has a championship caliber defense.

It would really take a miracle for Michigan State to win this week.  The Spartans are now 3-3 overall and 0-3 against Big Ten teams after last week’s demoralizing loss to UCLA.  They started off good with three straight wins, but things changed immediately once the interconference games began, and it won’t be any easier this week. 

1 Ohio State (6-0) @ Wisconsin (2-4)

Ohio State picked up their sixth win of the season last week after defeating Illinois 34-16, and in the process, those of us who watched the game, had an opportunity to witness just how great this Buckeye team is. Great, yes, that’s what they are, and they looked crisp, well oiled, and fine-tuned against an Illinois team that was ranked . Wisconsin was shut out at home by Iowa last weekend, and for the Badgers, getting back in the win column might not be a possibility until November 29th when they play Minnesota because after the Buckeyes, they have Oregon, Washington, Indiana, and Illinois. Yikes!

6:30 P.M.

8 Oregon (5-1) @ Rutgers (3-3)

Wow, okay, so, the Oregon Ducks lost at home last weekend to Indiana and fell to in the AP Top 25. Also, Oregon fell into this large group of teams in the Big Ten with one conference loss. Plain and simple, Indiana knocked the Ducks off of their high horse, and it was surprising to see. I expect Oregon to make an example out of Rutgers this week, and honestly, that’s the only way to get over a defeat like the one they just suffered. Rutgers is now 3-3, and after starting this season 3-0, they’re in what I call the bottom third of the Big Ten (I’ll tell you about that later in another article). Rutgers is at home this weekend, and the Scarlett Knights do play tough in New Jersey, but this is David versus Goliath. Athan Kaliakmanis to Ian Strong is still a thing, but will it be enough to make a difference? I doubt it.

7:00 P.M.

Penn State (3-3) @ Iowa (4-2)

Head Coach, James Franklin, was fired on Sunday, and quarterback, Drew Allar is out for the rest of the season with an injury. What in God’s name is going on in Happy Valley? Penn State beat Villanova 52-6, and everyone was talking about championships and playoffs. Things were going really well, and the Nittany Lions were as expansive as ever, but then, a devastating-six-point-loss to Oregon at home changed things. Here we are now in week eight, Penn State is now 3-3 overall after losing three straight games, and all the conversations about winning a national championship have seized.

Iowa, on the other hand, is 4-2, and they’re playing good football right now. The Hawkeyes only lost by five points to Indiana. They actually did better against Indiana than both Illinois and Oregon. Iowa seems to be peaking at just the right time, and they have some momentum behind them. A win this week at home against Penn State could open a lot of eyes-or a lot of Hawkeyes. 🤣

Maryland (4-2) @ UCLA (2-4)

Maryland lost at home to Nebraska last weekend, and UCLA won on the road against Michigan State. This week, it’s the 2-4 Bruins against the 4-2 Terrapins, and it kind of sounds funny to say this, but I think this is a game UCLA can win. The Bruins did not look like a 2-4 team last week. I don’t know where they’ve been hiding, but they’re out and about now.

7:30 P.M.

20 USC (5-1) @ 13 Notre Dame (4-2)

After suffering a heart breaking two-point loss to Illinois, USC responded with a huge win over the Wolverines at home last week. With that win, the Trojans improved their overall record to 5-1 and they’re now back on the national scene.

After losing the first two games of this season, the Fighting Irish fell off the map, but they’ve been consistent and persistent. Miraculously, after winning four straight, Notre Dame somehow reappeared in the Ap Top 25 at number thirteen! I mean, wow.

This is going to be an interesting game because Notre Dame’s first two loses were to Miami, who’s now ranked , and Texas A&M, who’s now ranked . In all actuality, Notre Dame might not be that bad, they just happened to draw two of the best teams in the country during weeks one and two. Um, and you know what? They lost to Miami by three and Texas A&M by one.

This week, Notre Dame will need another great performance from their defense. Against NC State last week, Notre Dame’s defense picked off three passes, they had four quarterback sacks, and they held the Wolfpack offense to just 51 yards on the ground. USC running back, King Miller, rushed for 158 yards and 1 touchdown on 18 carries against the Wolverines. That’s 8.8 yards per touch, and something the Fighting Irish must stop.

College Football Week 8; Big Ten Schedule

Things are getting super interesting in the Big Ten college football conference. We are now heading into the eighth week of the season, and some of the teams we thought we’d see at top of the standings are nowhere to be found. Some of the conference giants are losing momentum, and some of the teams we wrote off for good have gotten a second wind.

The Week 8 college football schedule has nine games featuring teams from the Big Ten Conference. Eight of those games are interconference games, and then we have the rivalry game between USC and Notre Dame. The game between the Washington Huskies and the Michigan Wolverines was my selection for Big Ten Game of the Week. Illinois has a bye this week.

College Football Week 7; Big Ten Results

Good morning! Friends, fans, and followers, thank you for visiting Nooz Buffet. This weekend of college football was wild! Everyone who emailed me for the Week Seven Pick Sheet, well, I know you guys are counting your money today. There were some upsets, some impressive victories, and some things will not be the same heading into week eight.

The Hoosiers, underdogs and on the road, traveled to Eugene and beat Oregon by ten. I don’t think the Ducks had the lead once in that game. Northwestern, a twenty-one-and-a-half-point underdog, traveled to Happy Valley and handed Penn State their third loss of the season. UCLA is back from the grave, the unranked Trojans knocked off Michigan, and Nebraska won in the Shell. Yes, it was a wild weekend of football for sure, so let’s take a look at the results and see how we did with our picks.

College Football Week 7; Big Ten Preview and Predictions

Well, it’s Monday morning, and the week is just beginning, but we have an excellent weekend of college football to look forward to. There are nine games this week featuring teams from the Big Ten Conference, and if you do the math knowing the Big Ten actually has eighteen teams and not ten anymore, then you’ll realize that all the games are interconference games and no one has a bye. Several games standout to me as a potential “Big Ten Game of the Week,” but I had to go with the game between Indiana and Oregon. I’m sure most people would agree. So, without any further ado, let’s get into this week’s preview and predictions

Friday, October 10th

9:00 P.M.

Rutgers (3-2) @ Washington (4-1)

Rutgers had a bye last week, but before going into hibernation, they lost to Minnesota 31-28. Actually, Rutgers lost their last two games and haven’t been in the win column since a week three victory against Norfolk State. That’s not a good sign. Washington got a reality check during their week five loss to the Buckeyes, but they came back strong by dealing Maryland their first loss of the season during week six. With Ohio State, Oregon, and now Indiana, is easy for Washington to get lost in the mix, but don’t sleep on the Huskies. They have a very good football team.

Saturday, October 11th

UCLA (1-4) @ Michigan State (3-2)

UCLA was 0-3 when they lost to Northwestern, and with that defeat, the Bruins became who we thought they were, but just when we wrote UCLA off for the season, something incredible happened. They beat the seventh ranked Nittany Lions last week and got win number one. Against Penn State, UCLA held on to the ball for almost forty minutes and didn’t turn the ball over. Michigan State lost their second game of the season during week six against a very good Nebraska team, and they haven’t had any success in conference play. They need a win this week, badly. This game is a total mystery. Which UCLA team is going to show up? Will we see the 0-4 Bruins, or will we see the inspired and perseverant UCLA team that just beat Penn State?

1 Ohio State (5-0) @ 17 Illinois (5-1)

This game was a potential Big Ten Game of the Week for obvious reasons. Illinois is 5-1 overall, 2-1 in the conference, and they responded brilliantly after that embarrassing week four loss to Indiana with back-to-back wins against USC and Purdue. The Fighting Illini regained their confidence and little momentum to go along with it, and they’re going to need both this week. Ohio State, well, I think Minnesota’s Head Coach, P.J. Fleck, gave us a very informative and brutally honest press conference concerning the Golden Gopher’s loss to Ohio State. The Buckeyes are just that damn good, they can do whatever they want offensively, so if you commit to the run, they’ll pass. If you guard the pass, they can run the ball, and they have at least four guys that can do it. Julian Sayin completed 23 of 27 passes for 326 yards and three touchdowns without an interception, and he was the question mark coming into this season. I’m just sayin..

3:30 P.M.

Northwestern (3-2) @ Penn State (3-2)

Bing, bang, boom! After back-to-back losses to Oregon and UCLA, Penn State fell right out of the AP Top 25. Just like that! And, hey, who can blame the pollsters? We waited years for the 2025 Drew Allar to come into being, and I think we’re a little disappointed. Against Nevada, he completed 22 of 26 passes for 217 yards and 1 touchdown, and that was arguably his best performance of the season! In the last four games, he’s completing 60% of his passes for 741 yards, 7 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions. That’s not good, but hey, we win as team, and we lose as a team. Where was the Penn State defense against UCLA? Ah, let me stop. Northwestern, I would have to think, feels pretty good about this game after seeing what UCLA just pulled off. The Wildcats are a scrappy bunch of alley cats, and even against the Ducks, they balled until the final whistle blew. That’s the mark of a team with potential. I think we’re all a little lost when it comes to Penn State now, but we know one thing for sure. The Wildcats are going to play to win, and they won’t give up.

7 Indiana (5-0) @ 3 Oregon (5-0)

Okay, so this is the Big Ten Game of the Week (in my opinion). We have the seventh ranked Hoosiers against the third ranked Ducks. Both teams are 5-0, but this is football. Someone will walk away with a loss after this one, but who will it be? Indiana had a bye last week, so that means extra rest and more preparation time. Perfect timing for the bye week. Quarterback, Fernando Mendoza, had a mediocre performance against Iowa on September 27th, but he’s having an amazing season in general. Offensively, the Hoosiers have weapons, and statistically, they’re defense is pretty good, but do we really know the Hoosiers? I mean, they beat Iowa by 5. That’s a red flag in my opinion, and then when you look at their schedule, Illinois was really the only test they had.

In the Big Ten, in my opinion, it’s Ohio State then Oregon. Oregon is a good football team. Quarterback, Dante Moore, completed 29 passes for 248 yards and 3 touchdowns against Penn State, running back, Dierre Hill Jr., averaged 8.2 yards per carry, and the Ducks amassed 424 yards of total offense for 30 points. Defensively, Oregon, as of October 3rd, was ranked 5th best nationally by Sports Illustrated, but stats can be deceiving. Indiana’s offense will present a real challenge for Oregon’s defense this weekend. As a matter of fact, Oregon hasn’t seen an offensive unit yet this season that compares to Indiana’s. I think this game will be close, but when it’s all said and done, Oregon walks away with win number six.

Nebraska (4-1) @ Maryland (4-1)

Nebraska is now 4-1 after beating Michigan State last week 38-27, and Maryland is now 4-1 after losing a heart breaker to Washington 24-20. Both are 4-1, and both are 1-1 in the conference. Nebraska and Maryland are what I call, middle of the pack teams. You have Ohio State and Oregon at the top, and then there’s this large group of 1-loss teams that are jockeying for position. Maryland is good this year and tough to beat at home, and Nebraska’s only blemish was a three-point loss to Michigan, who right now, is ranked fifteenth nationally. Maryland was actually beating Washington last week 20-0 and 20-3 at the start of the fourth quarter, then Washington exploded and put twenty-one on the board to win. Maryland just ran out gas, and Wahington wore them out. This weekend, the Terrapins will need to bring their fuel reserves because Nebraska will attempt to do the same thing.

7:00 P.M.

Iowa (3-2) @ Wisconsin (2-3)

After a week off, the Iowa Hawkeyes return to action looking to avenge a 5-point loss to Indiana during week 5. Wisconsin is 2-3 overall and in a real tough position. After three straight losses to Alabama, Maryland, and Michigan, the badgers are suddenly standing with their backs against the wall. They can still salvage their season with a win this week against Iowa, but that’s not going to be easy.

7:30 P.M.

Purdue (2-3) @ Minnesota (3-2)

Head Coach, P.J. Fleck, would like nothing more than to grab a win this week because a win over Purdue can cure a lot of pain and suffering emanating from the Ohio State debacle. Purdue is 2-3 overall and struggling against Big Ten opponents, so he might actually get his wish.

15 Michigan (4-1) @ USC (4-1)

So, the Wolverines are ranked nationally, they’re 2-0 in their conference, and they’re on a three-game-winning streak. Quarterback, Bryce Underwood, is the talk of the town, and running back Justice Haynes, rushed for 117 yards on 19 carries against Wisconsin. Michigan, who was somewhat overlooked in the beginning of the season because of the big three (Ohio State, Penn State, and Oregon), suddenly seems to be emerging as a real contender, but if anyone is going to take them seriously, they will need to beat the Trojans this weekend. USC took their first defeat last week against Illinois, and it was by two damn points. Jayden Maiava threw 43 passes and completed 30 of them for 364 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also threw a pick, but overall, not bad. Wide receiver, Makai Lemon, caught 11 passes for 151 yards and two touchdowns. The Trojan’s defense needs to show up this week, and if they do, USC can win a close one at home.
