Someone On Pluto Is Listening To A Radio! Well, Maybe.

Fast Radio Bursts – powerful but brief bursts of radio waves from deep space; they’re puzzling, mysterious, and the latest astronomical discovery.

CHIME is a novel radio telescope originally designed for mapping hydrogen over a portion of the universe.  CHIME collects digitized signals that are processed and used to form 3-D maps of hydrogen density, and those maps will be used to measure the expansion history of the universe.

As amazing as CHIME is, it doesn’t stop there because these signals can also pick up and detect fast, transient radio emission, which also makes CHIME a unique telescope for discovering new “Fast Radio Bursts” and monitoring pulsars.

So what did CHIME actually find?

FRB180725A (month, day, and year detected) transmitting in radio frequencies as low as 580 Megahertz, 200 MHZ lower than any FRB previously detected.  This low frequency was an indication the bursts were very bright and from a powerful source that we actually found in a galaxy 3 billion light years away!

Right now, were trying to figure out if the sources were naturally occurring or artificial.  If they’re artificial…….there could be an alien listening to a radio.  Well, maybe, but definitely not on Pluto.

Check back for new and updated information about CHIME and FRB.

What Happened To The Dinosaurs?

The probability of an asteroid striking earth is small, but if it did, the damage could be unimaginable. 65 million years ago the earth was filled free grazing dinosaurs before it was struck by a 10 kilometer asteroid.

Our earth, which probably looked more like Venus at the time, experienced extreme weather patterns and climate changes. The immediate impact caused a firestorm followed by what is known as a nuclear winter.

Dust, smoke, and debris rose up in a mushroom cloud blocking out the sun’s rays, and Planet Earth was sent into a very long ice age. The first evidence we have of Global warming gradually brought the temperatures back to normal finally, but gosh! Those poor dinosaurs.

Vitamin D

According to the online publication, “Medical News Today,” research studies have shown over 1 billion people worldwide are vitamin D deficient.

Our bodies do not produce vitamins and so generally, vitamins must be ingested through fortified food sources or by supplementing. What’s really interesting about vitamin D is that despite its name, it’s more formally known as a pro-hormone.
Known as the sunshine vitamin, vitamin D is considered a pro-hormone because it can be synthesized by our bodies when our skin has direct exposure to sunlight.

Vitamin D helps the body absorb calcium therefore, it’s essential for bone health. Our brain, heart, muscles, and immune system all have vitamin D receptors and all require the nutrient for proper function.
Insufficient levels of vitamin D levels are linked to weight gain, mood swings, periods of unexplained irritability, and chronic Seasonal Affective Disorder.

Adequate levels of vitamin D may play a role in regulating blood pressure, and similarly acts as a hormone in the body.
If you are going to use a vitamin D supplement then you should know it’s measured in IU and mcg. The proper intake for infants 0-12 months is 400IU (10mcg). Children 1-18 years old, pregnant or lactating women, and adults up to age 70, 600Iu or (15mcg) is recommended daily. 800Iu (20mcg) is a sufficient daily dose for adults over 70.

Remember good eating habits are always important. Fortified milk, juices, cheese, or cereal are good sources of vitamin D, and the same can be said about fatty cold water fish like salmon, herring, sardines, tuna, and mackerel.

Personally Speaking

I posted this video to my You Tube account a couple of months ago, and I just wanted to make some additional comments.  Let me start by saying I’m not encouraging bad or negative behavior, and I’m not telling anyone to curse out their boss and quit their job.

This video was made in response to a video discussing personal growth and self worth.  The career path can be a journey.  From the time we start working professionally until we reach that career we decide to settle in and keep until retirement, we’re going to meet all types of people and find ourselves in some unique situations.

Some of those situations, however bad they may seem, can be learning experiences, and if we hang around long enough and demonstrate a little patience we can gain.  Switching jobs every year or every two years isn’t a bad thing as long as you’re learning.

Learning doesn’t always apply to demonstrative skills like writing, typing, or operating computers or equipment.  It could simply be dealing with people.  It could be observing personality types, and learning effective communication processes.

Eventually, you’ll reach a point of maturation where your self-worth becomes evident, and it will be easy for you to recognize the difference between a good learning experience and a situation where your just getting shitted on.

Obada Gets Recognized

Carolina Panthers Efe Obada had a sack and an interception last Sunday against the Cincinatti Bengals, and later on received NFC defensive player of the week honors despite the fact that Carolina lost the game.  He is also the first player to reach the NFL through its International Pathway Program.

Obada is originally from Nigeria, but spent the majority of his childhood in Europe because he was abandoned in London when he was 10.  According to an artical published in the USA Today, Obada just recently revealed that he was the victim of human trafficking as a child.

Real Things Happen 😁😨😠

About a week ago I had a doctor’s appointment but before going in to see the doctor I saw a woman approximately seventy years old get hit by a sports utility vehicle. She flew up on the hood and hit the windshield before rolling off and hitting the pavement.
Three months ago I went for a walk early one evening, and I was almost hit head on by a man driving a pickup truck. Apparently he was too impatient to wait in the line of traffic so he pulled the wheel right and sped up in the shoulder.  When I became visible in his headlights he pulled the wheel back left and smashed into the car driving next to him. I’m lucky. That was five minutes after I left my house.
Sometimes people are so caught up in their personal issues they forget to see the bigger picture. Life is short. Don’t forget to say goodbye or I love you or whatever else it is you think you’re too busy to say.
