The Push – part dos

Your starting point is your choice.  Ground up, or Top Down, it’s totally up to you.

Personally, I like to start from the top.  My approach is Top Down, outside in.  That means starting with your physical appearance and what others can see, and then addressing internal issues.

Twenty five years ago maybe you had your hair cut every two or three weeks, but right now, today, you have someone cutting it once every four months.  There’s a good two months when your neck is all hairy and the hair is just sticking out in all types of weird ways from your collar.

Having you hair cut made you feel good because…you looked good.  There’s no secret there.  If you like the way you look, you’ll feel better about yourself.  There’s a saying, “look good, feel good,” and it’s all about confidence.

As I’m writing this, I just started laughing to myself because I was in a hole, and I know that some people could’ve been in a hole so deep, they let themselves go for years and years and years.😆.  I can laugh at this because I was there.  Two years ago I saw a shirt hanging in my closet that I wore in 1999.  ..I couldn’t believe I still owned that shirt.

Anyways….Hair cuts, grooming, new modern clothes, and footwear are ways to help improve our look.  Keeping up to date with our  appearance not only makes us feel good, but it increases our confidence, and it changes the way others see us as well.

Trust this.  Our outer appearance is what people see first obviously, so if you’re slipping in this area, people notice.  Well, people that care about you will notice.  If your neglect continues they’ll begin to wonder.

“Oh did you see Betty today.  She still has that jacket from like 10 years ago.  Is she poor, is she working, what’s she doing with her money, maybe she’s depressed.  I think Betty is smoking dope.”

Dieting and exercising, in my opinion, are on the border – meaning they’re the transition from outer to inner.  Dieting and exercising improves so many things, but specifically, they change our look and improve overall health.  Doing both moderately will help put us in a better state mentally, improve our health, and enable us to look better.  Exercising improves cardiovascular health, blood circulation, and thus, overall digestion.

Imagine your inner body is a pond.  Without circulation and movement the water gets stagnant and containimated.  When the water flows it stays clean for the most part and containmenants don’t have time to gather.  Even if you get out for a walk or sit on a stationary bike and peddle, that’s moving.

All of this this brings us back to The Push.  The refusal to let ourselves go and neglect our bodies puts us back in a position where we’re feeling good about ourselves.  We look good, and we know it.  We feel it, and we’re confident.  We might not standout, but we’re good with what we’re working with.  You’re not running home anymore, in fact you’re having a good time and enjoying yourself.

I’ll tell you this because I know it’s true.  Sometimes we get frustrated and upset with other people and choices we make, but it’s because something is off within us.  The root of our frustration is simply, not doing what we want.  You wanted to go shopping, but you didn’t, you wanted to run, but you decided not to, you wanted to reach out to contact a friend, but you didn’t, you wanted send a funny email, but you decided not to, and then, when the weekend came, you went out with some friends who were talking and laughing about how they did all the things you decided not to do.  The frustration within projected envy and a sense of jealousy.  The people around you picked up on your impatience.

You had nothing to say because you didn’t want to do anything, so you just stood there with a fake smile on your face and listened.  The people around you knew you weren’t yourself, and they couldn’t figure out why suddenly you were the quiet one in the group.

My advice is for you to do what you want.  Whatever it is, do it.  Don’t be a victim of self-abuse, meaning don’t beat yourself up later for not doing what you wanted to do now.  Don’t limit yourself.

Eventually, people’s views about Betty will change.  “Did you see Betty?  She just got her hair done, and it looks really good.  Did you see Mr. Smith with his new Pants?  He got a complete wardrobe update.  He’s looking super-stylish.  Boy, that Betty is in really good shape, she’s almost 40.

Eventually, Betty does all the things she wants to do, and she’s happy.  She has something to talk about.  She’s actively living, and wants to share her experiences.  She’s laughing and talking and the life of the party again.  She’s Pushing it.

Now Betty wonders why Joan isn’t herself.  “Did you see Joan at the party all quiet and standing there with that stupid fake smile.”  Joan’s running home now complaining about the place, the people, and everything else.

Where Foxes Roam

I was absolutely shocked the first time I saw a fox, and I don’t know if it was because I’ve never seen one before, or because I didn’t expect to see one in Pennsylvania.

Is Pennsylvania a state populated with foxes?  Is it normal for them to be roaming about here?  I don’t know.  There’s a park near my house, and that’s the first place I encountered one.  It’s a good thing it was a baby because we were close, approximately 15 yards between us, but we were staring into each other’s eyes.

I asked myself, “Is that a fucking fox?”  Sure as shit it was.  Now they’re running through people’s yards and messing with local pets.  The cat and dog population must be terrified.  LOL

Today, I was walking, and I saw one lying dead on the side of the road.  It’s crazy, but I guess they’re more common than I thought.  I hope they don’t mess with my dog Jack.  Jack barks loud, but he’s just a little guy.

Variations In Training Routine

What’s up?  I can’t believe how popular total body workouts are becoming.  I’m not a stranger to the fact that these workouts have been around almost as long as lifting weights has, but the popularity of these workouts change with the needs of those lifting the weights.

Everyone is out for different results, and that’s because we all have different goals.  As you know I’ve been training my whole body in a single session, and my workout has been as follows:

Chest- Dumbbell Bench Press: 4 sets @ 16, 14, 12, 8 reps.

Back-Seated Close Grip Rows: 4 sets @ 16, 14, 12, 8 reps.

Shoulders- Seated Strait Bar Press: 4 sets @ 16, 14, 12, 8 reps.

Legs- Squats: 4 sets @ 12, 12, 10, 8 reps.

Tricepts- Close Grip Push Downs: 4 sets @ 25 reps.

Bicepts- Alternating Dumbbell Curls: 4 sets @ 25 reps.

It’s a very basic work, but it’s good, and if it’s preformed at a high intensity, you might puke.  I almost did!

I did however, want to introduce a couple of variations that I’m now experimenting with to shock my body a little.  Professionals say our bodies can adjust to workouts, which results in minimal gains, so it’s important to keep things fresh.  Shit gets stale.

The first thing you can do is change the frequency or time between lifting sessions.  If you start things off lifting every Monday, that’s good.  Stick with that for a month just to get the ball rolling again.  When month two begins, start training once every six days.  So that would be Monday, Sunday, Saturday, etc.

When month three begins, change it again to once every five days.  If you can get yourself up to once every three days, that’s fantastic.  As you close the gaps between training sessions, you can also change the routine.

If you use my workout above as a base to start with, then let’s use chest as our example.

Chest- Dumbbell Bench Press 2 sets @ 16, 14 reps.

Strait Bar Bench Press- 2 set @ 12, 8 reps.

So, as you can see, we’re still doing 4 total sets, but we’re doing two different exercises for the body part.  You can do the same thing with Legs, Back, Shoulders, and Arms.

If you want to make it high intensity then check this out.

Start with Dumbbell Bench Press, and do your first set of 16 reps, then immediately, without a resting period, jump to your flat bench (which is already set-up and waiting) for your set of Straight Bar Press @ 12 reps.  Rest for 45 seconds to 1 minute, and then repeat.  Bam!  Chest is done already.

Remember, with total body routines, the focus is muscle strength and endurance.  It’s not really a mass-building workout.  Think hard and fast.  Stay moving.

Alright everyone, as always, if you have any questions or comments please write in.  We love hearing from you, and don’t forget to tap the follow button.

Seeing Love

There are so many occasions when I’ll be cleaning, working, walking, or just out and around when I notice these hearts.  It’s amazing how often, and what actually makes the shape.  The picture on the left is the wire to my headphones.  I tossed my headphones on a mattress, and the cord formed a heart.  On the right is a smudge of I don’t know what, and it’s been fermenting on my dresser for a while.

A few days ago I decided to use some Pledge wood cleaner on the dresser top and when I looked closely, I saw a crusty heart. lol  So funny.  A time of love I guess.  I’ll post and share the hearts as I see them.

What’s up you all?  How’s everyone doing?

How’s you’re exercise, fitness, and weight lifting routines?  I’m still going one day per week and getting in a good total body workout.  Of course I would like to go more, but I’ve been very busy.

One day per week is definitely better than no days per week because the reality is that we all have our grown up responsibilities to tend to.  I’m not going to lie though, I have been feeling a little guilty going only one day per week so I’ve added a day of running at the park.

There’s a beautiful park with a good cement track that’s close to my house.  It has a pond with ducks and some other cool stuff.  I figure a day of running and a day of lifting should do it for now.  I heard someone saying recently, the primary function of the brain is controlling movement in the body, so if you’re not moving then your brain isn’t working to its full and necessary potential.  Good point, right?

This Spring had been good so far.  I’m a single man, and there has been some amazing women out and about.  I see you.  The weather has been good too, but I’m not going to talk too much about that because I don’t want to jinx us for March.

Spring cleaning definitely got the best of me this year.  I took a weekend to clean out my surroundings, but I probably could’ve done it in a day.  I think I have a tendency to over due it sometimes, and that results in a waste of time.

This Thursday night April 11th at 6:30, WordPress is sponsoring an event in Allentown, which happens to be right where I live.  I RSVP’D today, and I think this is going to be a good chance to meet the talent residing behind the screens.  If you have nothing going on Thursday night come out to the Bridge Works Enterprise Center located at 905 Harrison Street in Allentown.

Our website is starting to get some new likes and traffic.  That’s awesome!  Thank you so much, and I humbly ask that you click on the follow button while you’re reading along.

I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying their week.  Tomorrow is hump day Wednesday…almost over.

Before I wrap this up, I wanted to tell you I think lemons are excellent for burning belly fat.  Whenever I go to the food store I’ll pick up a lemon and drop a few slices in my bottled water.  Try it, and let me know what you think.

I’m telling you, Table Seven is where it’s at.  We’re discussing evening activities and social gatherings, diet, and exercise.  It’s life, and we’re living it.

Battle of the Books – Follow Up

I’ll admit, I was really nervous, but the night was fantastic.  I just recently became a member of GLVWG, Greater Lehigh Valley Writers Group towards the end of last year.  They’ve had so many events and gatherings since, but they always seemed to be scheduled when I had work.  So tonight was the first chance I had to show up and participate.

I was one of two timekeepers, and my responsibility was to…. keep track of a time.  Each author had a series of categories that I guess you could say were parts or elements of a story.  Their stories.  They had three minutes to read from their books showing how they incorporated these elements in to their stories, and the audience voted.

It was fun.  I’m glad I went.

I Don’t Usually……

20190405_114119I’m not really a person that keeps up with fashion trends or styles, and I don’t usually notice what’s “IN” until it affects me in some way or I need something…

but listen to me.  LOL  Personalized coffee mugs are in right now.  That’s right.  You heard it here first.  LOL  Personalized coffee mugs.

Robot Writers

04/03/2019

What’s up you all?  How are you this evening?

I read a tweet today that said something about robots replacing journalist, and it just got me thinking about what I wrote in my post a few days ago.  I told you journalism is wide open.  I also told you what I write in my news now and commentary categories was real and up-to-date.

The point is, the only way robots could replace humans in any field is if humans are that dependent on machines to do their job.  If your local television news station decided to print the news and allow you the viewer to read it during the news hour, do you really need the reporter to tell you the news?  Probably not.

Do you need to watch the television news at night if you read the newspaper every morning?  Probably not.

Can a robot go to a job fair and interact with local businesses, and then write about it?  Probably not.

Journalism and news reporting in general is one career area that has benefited from the use of machines and computers, but humans were reporting the news way before machines, and they’ll continue to do so when technology breaks down.

    I wouldn’t worry about it.

For all my fellow Aquarians out there, when it comes to love and relationships our two most compatible signs are Leo and Sagittarius.  That’s really interesting because they’re both fire signs, and as you know we’re an air sign.  According to the elemental language of love, air and fire can be very compatible.  A lot of air may put a fire out, but a little air could fan the flames of love for a very long time.

Now that I think about it, I don’t know if I ever dated a Leo.

4/1/2019

Alright, what’s up you all?

Today obviously is the first day of April.  I hope you didn’t get tricked too good, but hey, the day isn’t over yet.

I just wanted to let you, my dear readers know the News Now category on this site is real up to date news.  It’s not traditional in the sense of reading scripts, copy editing, or following narratives, but it’s real and current.  I mean usually I’ll cover some sports, and you’re probably aware it’s mostly Pennsylvania sports.

Journalism right now is wide open, and truthfully, you can turn on the television, or pick up a news paper and “read all about it,” but I’m coming to you live and direct, which is why we encourage more interaction from readers.  It’s all good.

There’s so much happening right now.  Who’s on the job hunt?  Are you trying to find a career, or a part time job to make a few bucks?  At this point in my life, I know what I’m bringing to the table when I apply somewhere so my emphasis has really been on the employer and the people I could potentially be working with.

If you’re bouncing from job to job, it could wear on you.  It could get you down, and the inconsistency could drive you nuts, but don’t let it get to you.  For those who really enjoy working and like making a paycheck, not working can be the worst feeling, and that time in between jobs might feel like an eternity, but shit does happen.  Make sure you’re learning from your mistakes.

It actually took me a while to start figuring this out, but I’m starting to feel good about the way I shop for jobs.  If you notice an employer losses your application several times and has you reapply, or they say the’ll call you at a specific time on a specific day and don’t, then you need to consider if it’s worth your time.

Think about it.  You take the time to update your resume, either you make a trip to the place to fill out an application, or complete one on the internet, and you follow all their guidelines for applying.  Don’t forget, you do this with an upbeat and positive attitude.  At the very least, they can hold up their end.  Perhaps, act like they really want to bring in a fresh new hire.  They did say they needed help.

How about a job or career fair?  Have you tried one lately?  If you haven’t, but you plan on getting to one soon then there’s something you should know.  A career fair is a set up with like thirty or so employers/companies, and from my personal experience there’s two things I want to share.

The employers/companies have representatives there who have tables with attractive displays.  Some are way better than others, and after making a few rounds, it’s easy to spot who put in the effort, and who just slapped something together, but the idea behind the table displays are to sell their place of business to you, the person who’s looking for a place to work.

The reps should be positive, upbeat, and want to sell you a job.  They should want to sell you a job.  I approached one table to inquire about a particular place to work, and the rep behind the table told me to complete the application on line.  That shouldn’t be your experience with any company at a job fair.  You shouldn’t walk away from a table feeling like you could’ve gotten more accomplished if you stayed home and applied.

A career fair is a chance for job seekers and employers to come out from behind the screens, and talk to one another, which is very important considering the way the application process has evolved.

The second thing is to be conscious that the tables are close together.  If two companies you really want to apply to are sitting next to each other, you might want to speak to them at different times.  If you talk to Company A, and tell them you really want to work for them, and their company is really great, you’re going to look like you’re full of shit if  you repeat the same thing to Company B who just heard what you said to Company A.
