I don’t know if you read the Morning Call, but every now and again I’ll pick it up and thumb through it to see what’s happening locally.

There was an interesting article written by Carl Strikwerda on the News 13 page, Town Square, Your View.

“We must commit ourselves to making our colleges or universities a home for those young people without families,” wrote Strikwerda.

He goes on to say, “These students have great courage.  We in higher education need to be equally courageous in helping the next generation thrive.”

I agree with Carl, and I can relate to his article despite graduating William Paterson University in 2003.  The truth is that if you don’t intern or start  focusing on what you want to do professionally before graduating, then you might find yourself mixed up and lost in the shuffle of real life.

If you attend college right after high school, you’ll probably be 22, 23, or 24 after graduating.  At that age we’re young adults and most are responsible for paying back large sums of loan money.

My parents moved out of state in September 2003, and I graduated in August of the same year so I didn’t have a home to come home to.  I had to move in with a friend.

The title of Carl’s article is How schools can help “half-homeless” students, and this is the situation he was talking about.  Sometimes undergraduate students and definitely graduate students are looking for a little more out of their universities because the reality is they are half-homeless, in the real world, and looking for guidance.

Carl Strikwerda was sounding off a most needed rise from trusted adult professionals who’ve already made that successful transition this younger generation is now going through.

Pennsylvania’s King George Inn

The King George Inn was built in 1756 and served a place of refuge during the French and Indian War.  According to history France and England were fighting in America over territory, but both sides were being scalped by local Indian Tribes.

From a paranormal standpoint, the Inn is haunted by several ghosts.  According to hauntedhouses.com, there are five ghosts to be precise.  Charlie is an entity who hung himself but now likes to play jokes on the people currently working there in the kitchen.  There is also a male entity with a beard, a Revolutionary soldier, and a female and little girl draped in colonial clothing.

Historically, I’m pretty sure the Inn was built and named after George II.  George II was the King of Great Britain and Ireland.  He was also the Duke of Brunswick-Luneburg, and prince-elector of the Holy Roman Empire.  King George II died in 1760.

Total Body Workouts; Mardi Gras

Hiyadoin?

I decided to join a gym last year as you probably know if you’ve been following my blog, if not, I joined a gym.  I joined sometime towards the end of last year, and it was the first gym membership I’ve purchased in about fifteen years.

I planned on getting in there at least two days a week because I know I’m outta shape, and I wanted to start slow.  For at least a month I was consistent with two days, which is good because we obviously want to try to achieve those small goals we make for ourselves.

Sometimes however, things don’t go as planned, and we might have to make changes in our our schedules.  I don’t drive, and it has been very cold and snowy this winter so I changed my workout routine from two days/three body parts per day to a total body workout one day per week.

Total body workouts are very good for building muscle endurance, and they should be performed with high intensity.  A typical work consist of three sets per body part, but the break in between sets is longer than usual because you’re supposed to go through the entire body routine three times.  For example, 1 set for chest, 1 set for back, 1 set for shoulders, 1 set for legs, 1 set for bi’s, and 1 set for tri’s.  Take a five minute break and then go through the routine again completing one set for each body part, but switch up the exercises.  Take a five minute break again then repeat once more.  If you want, you can change the exercises again.

Today is Tuesday, March 5th, and yes it is Mardi Gras, but I decided not to venture out this evening.  Obviously, the show will still go on so have fun if you are.  I bought beads too!

Mardi Gras in P.A.?

New Orleans is known for many things, Mardi Gras perhaps being one of the more notable, but what I didn’t know is Tuesday March 5th is Mardi Gras day. That’s right, Mardi Gras Day!

I know we’re a long way from Louisiana, but maybe, just maybe we don’t have to be in New Orleans to enjoy the festivities. That could be wishful thinking on my part, but we shall see.

Tuesday isn’t a day know for partying, however, I think Mardi Gras is a good enough reason to venture out and see what’s up. I’ll be out. Enjoy, and expect a Wednesday follow up story.

Get To The Bottom Of It

I think it’s really interesting how infatuated we are with space, and I must admit, I’m one of these people. Well, I can be. My interest for it comes and goes, but there is always a curiosity that lingers.

When we look up into the sky our minds seem to just wonder in amazement. Oh the possibilities are endless, and they don’t have to be from a scientific standpoint either. Just think about past civilizations and cultures that were so rich in mythological lore, and how they even used the sun and moon as instruments for measuring time.

What’s really interesting however, is that I often think we are stretching ourselves thin with space knowledge. I mean before we can become masters of another domain shouldn’t we conquer our own first?

On June 8th, 2011, there was an article published on livescience.com titled “Mysteries of the Ocean Remain Vast and Deep.” Besides for mentioning June had been declared National Oceans Month, it also gave some very interesting statistics. As of year 2000, NOAA estimated 95% of oceans and 99% of ocean floors are still unexplored.

I think that’s incredible considering how eager we are to learn about ourselves as a species. Why do we spend so much time trying to get to places we’ve never been and can’t really get to without science and technology? Before science and technology we were still here standing around pretty much, but somehow we’ve learned both. We also been around way longer than cars and other vehicles. For a very long time we traveled the seas by boat. Can you imagine what’s probably laying on the ocean floor?

I think the keys to our history, origin, and evolution or creation are right here on good old earth. Everything starts from the ground and moves upward so wouldn’t it make sense to start on the ocean floor?

Some people laugh or say its not important when we talk about the spraying of chemicals in our skies, but the incident that made this topic important was the connection between naturally grown tobacco products and cancer. Was it the tobacco killing us or the chemicals that were sprayed on the tobacco?  Well, I guess we wouldn’t know until they stop spraying.

I doesn’t make sense to me that anything grown from our Earth can be unhealthy for us.  Think about everything we grow for consumption.  It’s all natural, and therefore we humans have a need for it.  From food to medicine and narcotics, I don’t think any of it can be harmful unless the ground is contaminated or it’s sprayed with chemicals.

Finally, the Philadelphia 76ers pulled a game ahead of the Boston Celtics.  Yesterday, the 76ers squeaked by the Pelicans 111-110.  The win improved their record to 39-22,and they moved up to 4th overall in the Eastern Conference.

The Penn State Nittany Lion Wrestling team was perfect this season finishing 14-0 in dual meets.  The Big Ten Wrestling Championships begin on March 9th, and the NCAA Championships on the 21st.

Recently I took interest in Neptune mainly because of its approximate 14-year stay in astrological houses and signs.  It’s fun when planets hang around for a while because it’s easier to examine trends.

Anyways, to my surprise there was an article recently published in the USA Today that discussed a recent discovery of a new tiny moon, Hippocamp, orbiting Neptune.  It’s Neptune’s smallest moon measuring 21 miles in diameter.  How about that?  That’s the 14th moon now known to be in Neptune’s orbit.

In case you weren’t outside today, it was absolutely gorgeous here in the Lehigh Valley.  Around 2 o’clock my phone said 46 degrees, but it felt more like 65 in the sun.  I walk, and today was the first time in a while that I was able to leave my scarf and gloves at home.  Not bad for February.

The 76ers are still in 5th place in the Easteen Conference.  Currently they’re tied with the 4th place Boston Celtics, both are 37-21.  Tonight the 76ers play the Miami Heat at 7 o’clock.

Supply and Demand?

Just recently I read in the newspaper that the cost for calling and using an ambulance was on the rise because of so many calls for needs that were of course non emergencies or didn’t require ambulances.

Like bee stings for example, but when I see ambulance drivers hanging out all day at Dunkin Donuts and other places, shouldn’t the cost be cheaper?  If they’re out in full force like taxis why not?

Responsibilities

If you have something to do do it.  If there’s something you would like to do do it.

I’m not and I’ve never claimed to be a master of self-help, but I firmly believe in taking responsibility for the things we do, and that in itself is perhaps the best method to maturity, personal growth.

To say that someone is rushing you is an excuse.  If you didn’t get your tasks done, and claim its because someone rushed you well that’s a lie.  The truth is you were not focused on what you had to do.

I dont know, maybe you were thinking about food, going to bed, or your significant other, and because of that your responsibilities were left incomplete.

If you have responsibilities, then they’re your responsibilities, therefore, it is your responsibility to make sure they are taken care of.

Scenario A

Harvey – “C’mon man hurry up lets get out of here.  We’ve been here all day.  Hurry up!”

Henry – “Okay I’ll clean later.”

Henry’s Mother – “Henry you’re grounded for not cleaning your room.”

Henry – “Mom, I was going to, but Harvey rushed me.”

Scenario B

Harvey – “C’mon man hurry up lets get out of here, I want to leave.  We’ve been here all day.  Hurry up!”

Henry – “No Harvey!  I have to finish cleaning my room first.  If you’re in a rush go ahead Ill catch up.”

Why am I angry? Part 2 😠

I am angry because I want to play, but there’s no one to play with.

I’m angry because its hard to find someone to share happiness with.

When I’m happy you’re angry, and you’ll remain angry until I’m angry.   Then you’ll become happy.

Hit and miss, up and down, and never on the same page.

Happiness comes from within, its the emotion you show when you’re content.  You’re happy when you’re satisfied, and ultimately in acceptance of who you are.

I’ll accept you for who you are.  Don’t fight love.
